Associates in Pediatric Dentistry (“AIPD”) is committed to protecting the security and privacy of the information we maintain. On August 25, 2023, we began mailing notification letters to patients whose information may have been involved in a security incident.
We recently completed our response to, and investigation of, an incident involving unauthorized access to certain AIPD email accounts. We initially identified the incident after experiencing unusual activity in our email system, and we immediately took steps to secure the system and launched an investigation with the assistance of a third-party forensic investigator. The investigation determined that certain AIPD email accounts were accessed without authorization between January 27, 2023 and February 8, 2023, and that some emails and attachments may have been viewed or copied.
On June 28, 2023, we completed the review and analysis of those emails and attachments, which determined they contained information for some patients. The information varies per patient but may have included some or all of the following for the patients involved: names, addresses, contact information, dates of birth, treatment and diagnosis information, dates of treatment, provider names, costs of treatment, and/or health insurance information.
We take this incident very seriously and sincerely regret any concern this may cause. For patients or parents of patients whose information may have been involved in the incident, we recommend that they review the statements they receive from the patient's healthcare providers and contact the relevant provider immediately if they see services the patient did not receive.
To help prevent something like this from happening again, we have implemented additional safeguards and technical security measures to further protect and monitor our email system. A dedicated, toll-free call center has been established to answer questions about this incident, which can be reached at (866) 731-2249, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Central Time, excluding major U.S. holidays.
